Welcome to the 2010 Mancation update Blog. I created this because Facebook sucks...(and because Facebook is blocked at work.)
Place: Lake Powell
Soundtrack: Anything with T-Pain and/or Maino
Here are some early details regarding where to fly into, where we are launching from, what time you should try and get to Powell and all sorts of other details.
First off, I'm pretty stoked to see everyone jump on board the change in location. I think everyone will agree that as much fun as Vegas is, you feel so "played" when you leave (amongst other things)....Not to mention we have all done Vegas (or Vegas has done us...either way) enough times that it has lost it's newness, it's adventure...its lust.
(This has nothing to do with my "3000 dollar fadora" from last time. I swear.)
There is a ton to do in Lake Powell during the day. Quote Point Break, wakeboard, wakesurf, water ski, cliff dive/jump, party and act like a rapper on a boat. There are cool hikes to go on and canyons to check out...if anybody has any requests, now would be a good time to throw them out.
Location
Lake Powell is huge at over 180 miles long. There are multiple launch points on the lake. To minimize driving, we are launching out of BULLFROG BAY. It is the furthest launch point to the East. Our launch point is on this map as "point A"
***Important*** Everyone NEEDS to be to Bullfrog within 2 hours of sunset on Thursday (at the latest). We cannot be driving around on the lake after dark.
Flight Information:
You can fly into Salt Lake City (6-7 hours away), Denver (7 hours) or Grand Junction (3 hours). I think most people are going to fly into Denver and then carpool with Paul, Kyle etc out to Junction on Weds night or Thursday morning. It is about 4 hours from Denver to Grand Junction. If you like, you are more than welcome to fly into Grand Junction early and stay with me. However, it is often more expensive and when you account for layovers and whatnot, faster to just fly into Denver and drive. If you have your pilots license, there is an airstrip close by to where we launch...but I believe this only applies to one of us (BRENT!) There will be additional vehicles leaving out of GJ on Thursday (myself, Loren and others)
Boat Details
The boat will be around 3000 dollars for all 3 nights/4 days. I'm still working out the details of this. If we have 10 people, that'll boil down to 300 dollars a person plus fuel. We will not be driving this boat all that much (drive to a cove and park it) so fuel should be pretty cheap. I wont know for sure this figure until I find a boat.
Loren Williams is a buddy of mine from the GJ area. He will be joining us and has a ton of knowledge of the Powell area. He is bringing his own boat (new!) which we will be using to party/ski/wakeboard/fish and generally have fun with. Due to this, Loren will not be included in paying for the houseboat (if you drop 40k+ on a boat we are using, you are exempt). In addition to this, I am trying to convince my buddies Kestrel and Bob to accompany us on this trip who also have VERY nice boats. They too will not be paying for the houseboat (if they come...which I'm thinking they will). I hope everyone is okay with this but I feel it is only right that if we are using their boats, they do not pay for the houseboat portion of this trip.
Food/Drink
There are no bars at Powell. We are essentially throwing a giant lake party for a few days. This means we've got to bring the bar to the lake...the good part about this is buying booze at an l-store is much cheaper than a bar, the bad is we've got to buy it all ahead of time. I think a budget of 600 dollars should buy us all the booze we need for 4 days/3 nights. this comes down to about 60 bucks a person...which wouldn't even buy a round of drinks for you and 4 buddies in Vegas...We will put together a list and everyone can help decide what/how much to buy. The details of this list will be put together at a much later date. In any case, guess how much you'll drink...then double it...or in Brent, Steve and Pat's case, triple it.
We are going to keep food pretty simple. If anybody has any requests or ideas throw them out there ahead of time. The boat will have a full kitchen and grill. We will probably divide into 3 different groups...each group is required to cook something each night...but we will worry about a menu later. Overall, I'm thinking a total of 1000 dollars in food is going to be more than enough. (100 bucks each) but I'm still not sure the best way to do this since everyone eats different amounts. Ideas? I'd like to keep dinner as something we all cook/eat together but maybe it'd be easier some other way.
Actvities
Hopefully we'll find other boats and team up for some bigger parties...but at the end of the day it'll be fun no matter what so long as all you people are coming.
Oh...and one Point Break clip...just for Kyle and myself!!
Sounds seriously awesome. Two things though. Food and booze seems a little high but then again I drink boxed wine and eat party pizzas every night. We could feed ten guys off a 300 dollar costco trip. With booze we should just bring two kegs and 10 bottles or 25 racks of keystone will run us 375 and will provide us with 750 beers to drink or send to davey jones locker. Secondly, we need to find a sexy 2nd boat full of chicks to plow after we have consumed said 750 beers. Other than that, I think blogs are awesome good work. Now I need to get a 10 pack from a tanning salon to get my base going now. Also, I'm fat maybe I should do a sit up. I will be so jacked and tan come boat time.
